Better Informed for a Better Tooele County
How Does the Study Work?
a. Hold public hearings and community forums to get citizen input.
b. Study Tooele County’s government and the alternative options.
c. Determine whether the county’s government could be significantly improved by changing the form of county government.
d. Report on its findings within 1 year.
2- The study will assess which of these forms of government are most effective for Tooele County:
a. Three-member County Commission (current form).
b. An Expanded County Commission (a 5- or 7-member commission).
c. A County Executive/Council, with separate legislative and executive powers. An elected “County Mayor” would be the executive, and a county council as legislature.
d. A Council-Manager form of government, with an appointed county manager as executive, with a county council as legislature.
3- Once the study is complete, the committee will confirm which of the forms of government are best for our future. If the committee recommends a change, it is subject to voter approval on a future ballot. No changes to our County’s government would be made except by popular vote.
